Swords have been used in war and contest for thousands of years. There is an Egyptian relief from 1,200 B.C., portraying a fencing match. Yet, paradoxically, it was only with the development of firearms that skilled swordsman-ship as we know it today began. Until then in medieval times, men had fought clad in heavy armor and weapons had to be really strong to make any impact. Once armor lost its purpose, swords grew lighter and easier to handle, and real skill in their use was essential.

These are all the horses who won the Preakness Stakes since the race was first held in 1876 and paid $30.00 or more dollars to win. The Preakness is the second leg of thoroughbred horse racing's Triple Crown. The first leg of the Triple Crown is the Kentucky Derby which is run the first Saturday in May, followed by the Preakness Stakes two weeks later, and then the Belmont Stakes comes three weeks after the Preakness.

These are the career earnings of all the 11 horses that have won the the Triple Crown in horse racing adjusted for inflation. I've listed the actual career earnings for each Triple Crown winner, and then how much the earnings are worth in today's dollars. The results are pretty interesting, and the horse with the highest career winnings in today's dollars is probably not the horse you would guess.

These are the racing records of the 11 horses who have won the Triple Crown in thoroughbred horse racing. To win the Triple Crown, horses have to win the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes during a five week span in the spring when they are three years old. Any thoroughbred can win the Triple Crown, colt or filly, though only colts have won the Triple Crown to date. Fillies do win Triple Crown races, but never a Triple Crown.
